Benefits
Pension
All UK permanent and contract employees will be entitled to join the BOC Retirement Savings Plan from their start date with the Company. Membership also provides extra security for employees and their families in the event of serious disability or death in service whilst at BOC. This is a contributory scheme, with various levels of contribution.
Hours
Typically, most employees work a 37.5 hour week Monday to Friday, however this is dependent on the type of work and contract agreed. You will be informed of the contracted hours of work for the role in which you are interested either at advertising or interview stage.
Annual Leave
Employees are entitled to holidays according to their contract or trade union agreement. The standard holiday entitlement is normally 25 days. Employees are also entitled to 8 statutory holidays as observed by the Company. Dependant on your position, leave will be increased for employees with over 10 years service.
Sick Leave
BOC UK normally pays sickness benefit in addition to the statutory sick pay (for employees who are absent from work as a result of sickness or injury. The sickness benefit is an employee’s normal basic salary less the usual deductions.

Maternity & Paternity
The Company, in the UK, provide enhanced maternity & paternity benefits for all eligible employees in addition to the statutory maternity & paternity benefits.
Trade Unions
BOC UK predominately works with three unions: The Transport and General Workers Union (T&GWU), The General Municipal Boilermakers (GMB) and Amicus.
BOC has a number of National Negotiation Committees, the principle purpose for these meetings is to negotiate for pay and terms and conditions of employment.
Private Health Insurance
The Company provides Private Health Insurance through PPP to those employees who are eligible. This would be discussed at the offer letter stage if appropriate.
BOC UK Car Scheme
BOC will also provide options on a car scheme if your new job requires a car. BOC also make available a status car scheme option to employees of a senior grade.
The Self Development Scheme
The Self Development Scheme has been devised with the specific aim of helping employees upgrade their skills, to improve formal qualifications and enhance their career potential. Typically financial assistance and study leave is offered to employees who wish to develop their skills and qualifications further.
Voluntary Employee Benefits
Employees can choose to take advantage of a number of benefits on a strictly voluntary basis, which BOC believe compliment other benefits already available to permanent employees.
This scheme, currently named “Employee Advantage” gives all permanent employees in BOC access to four insurance products: Personal Accident Insurance, Holiday Travel Insurance, Motor Insurance and Home Insurance.
Sports & Social Club – Group/Gases
The Company supports the formation of sports and social clubs where enough employees are interested to make the clubs viable. The Company will make a contribution towards the funding of the club, either on an ad-hoc basis or by regular contributions.
Professional Membership Subscription
The company recognises the value of expertise and information gained from professional institutions and memberships and therefore is prepared to pay individual’s membership subscription fees for any appropriate institutes.
Eye care and Tests
The Company values its employees and considers their health and well being as being important to the long term success of the company, to this end the company has its own Occupational Health service, which operates such programmes as Well Persons clinic. The company also recognises that in today’s modern world many of their employees rely on VDU work and therefore offers to pay for eye tests and care where appropriate.
Long Service Awards
BOC is a company that has many long service history employees and this significant commitment is recognised at 21 and 40 years.
If an employee reaches these milestones then they are invited to a Long Service Award ceremony where their achievement is recognised by a Long Service gift.
Free Car Parking
On all of the BOC sites, where there is car parking it is free.
Subsidised Restaurants
On most of the larger sites and some of the smaller ones there can be found subsidised restaurants.
Sites without restaurants usually have a Rest room or Mess Room, where kitchen equipment can be found.
