PREVIOUS WORK HISTORY:
Immediately prior to joining BOC, I worked as a Regional Sales Manager for a major food supplier in the hospitality market, primarily pubs and hotels. This is the same market BOC Sureserve serves, which gave me a good understanding of customer needs and expectations in this industry
I had also worked as Sales / Operations / Regional Manager in the vending industry (affiliated to the hospitality market).
My knowledge of BOC products was very limited prior to joining, but I had many years man-management and customer-focused sales experience in relevant industry sectors.
WHY DID I APPLY TO BOC:
I wanted to work for a blue-chip organisation in the hospitality industry. I had been made redundant from my previous role and the BOC opportunity came at just the right time.
MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
I manage a team of sales / service persons (SSP’s) delivering gas to customers throughout the South West / South Wales areas.
I have responsibility for over 5000 customers in my area and have full P&L accountability against budgets to manage.
My main focus with my team is to manage safety, monitor performance and implement any safety initiatives.
During the day I spend a lot of time talking to the team and my peers. I take as much opportunity as I can to go out with my SSP on field accompaniments and yard inspections.
THE MOST EXCITING THING ABOUT MY ROLE:
I enjoy the people development part of my role, which includes managing performance against Key Performance Indicators and objectives.
THE THING I LIKE LEAST ABOUT MY ROLE:
Delivering cylinders in the rain on a field accompaniment day and getting up at 5.00 am to drive to a site for the same!
WHERE COULD YOU SEE YOUR CAREER GOING?
I think it is too soon to say where I could see my career going, but I would like to remain in this area of the UK.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT BOC?:
I like the fact that I have a great deal of autonomy in my role, with little senior management involvement. BOC’s intranet / web based systems mean that you don’t need to carry loads of paper around with you and this is a huge benefit to me!
I also like the fact that BOC care for their staff.
