Thinking green, acting green

As industrial companies face increasing statutory and stakeholder pressure to minimise their impact on the environment, BOC has found that environmental awareness can create business opportunities.
BOC takes a positive stance on issues such as emissions, waste disposal, chemical use and energy consumption. Numerous programmes are underway within BOC worldwide that demonstrate a proactive, business led and determined approach to addressing environmental issues.
What perhaps isn’t widely discussed, however, is that as well as minimising the company’s impact on the environment, doing things more efficiently can make a tangible impact on BOC’s bottom line and also further reduce environmental impact.
Caring for the environment can also be built into BOC’s customer offer as Rachel Mason, refrigerants services business manager, explains: “The launch of refrigerants services as a standalone business has come at a time when the efficiency of refrigeration plants is under intense scrutiny in line with controls on energy usage and fuel cost pressure.
"We’re providing solutions that help our customers improve efficiency, reduce energy consumption and ultimately reduce carbon emissions, while promoting a preventative maintenance culture.
“A huge advantage to us is that this has led to our finding numerous opportunities among BOC’s existing customer base – ranging from food processing plants and petrochemical complexes, to supermarkets, distribution depots and even fishing vessels. We have added another service to complement our product offering in those market sectors where efficient and reliable refrigeration is important.”
