Vital air for Little Miss Miracle
![]() |
Helena Young, a tiny girl dubbed Little Miss Miracle, reached a major milestone at aged 18 months old when she became well enough to wave goodbye to her BOC Medical Vitalair oxygen concentrator.
At birth Helena had not been expected to live when she was born 15 weeks premature. An only surviving triplet, she weighed just 1lb 8oz and had a blood clot on her heart.
Doctors had wanted to turn off her life-support system but her parents, Jeanette and Peter, begged them to keep trying to save her - and slowly but surely she responded to treatment.
Helena spent the next four and a half months in various hospitals before she was deemed well enough to go home. But, as her mother explained, Helena was only released because she could have BOC Vitalair in the house.
"We have been so lucky there was such a piece of equipment available," said Jeanette. "It has made all the difference to Helena because she has really thrived on it - we can't thank BOC enough."
